Oak Grove - The Base
The Oak Grove, Marine Corps Auxiliary Air Facility located near Pollocksville, NC, and about 30 miles from the Marine Corps Air Station at Cheery Point. The Base has been used as a training base for Marine Corps Aviators who would fly on training from New River and Cherry Point. We understand that famous Marines such as Chesty Puller also trained here.
Currently designated as Oak Grove OLF (Outlying Field) it is in use yet today for an operational destination for training pilots much as it has been since the 1940’s. During the late 1970’s and early 80’s a motor pool was established where the Marines of MOOSE made our home in “hooches” or quonset huts.
